シリーズ第一作目は、想像を超える出逢いと奇跡の産物である。遠く離れた地ガーナの看板絵師たちは、粗末な掘っ立て小屋や大きな木の下をスタジオにして描いていた。8枚の絵画は小沢の描いたドローイングをもとに4名の絵師たちによって描かれたものである。音楽を担当したキング・アイソバは、ガーナの国民的歌手であり、Dr. Nの物語をベースに、その場で即興的に歌を創り出した。急遽決まったビデオ撮影は、アイソバの錚々たるミュージシャン仲間が集い、首都アクラの街なかで撮影された。福島県立喜多方高等学校合唱部のコーラス・アレンジは作曲家の安野太郎が担当し、以後同シリーズにレギュラー参加している。絵画、映像、音楽で構成される作品の構造がここで決まった。

The first installment in the series features an unimaginable encounter and a miraculous product. The sign painters in distant Ghana work use shabby huts and the canopy of large trees as their studios. The eight paintings in the work were made by four sign painters based on Ozawa’s original drawings. The nationally renowned Ghanian singer King Ayisoba provided the music, improvising songs inspired by the story of Dr. N. Ayisoba and a group of his distinguished musician friends assembled for the video shoot, decided at a moment’s notice, on the streets of Accra, the Ghanian capital. The choral work, performed by the Fukushima Prefectural Kitakata High School Chorus Club, was arranged by the composer Taro Yasuno, who went on to take part in the rest of the series. This first work established the structure of the series, which is made up of paintings, videos, and music.
